The trip I looked forward to for half a year is almost over. I have talked about the country in previous articles, now about the experience. And maybe a few tips for travellers.
First - I can hardly express how warm a welcome I received from my friend and his family here, so I just say it makes me feel humble. And I can't wait to return the favor when Idan and Gabi come to Prague this autumn. Watching them, and their superb sons together, leaves a smile on my face every time. He has a huge heart in the right place and her laugh brings a shine to even a dimmest moment. Thank you!
I was honored by the invitation to their wedding - a jewish wedding in South Africa? Hell, yes!
The ceremony was much more friendly compared to what I experienced in Czech. It's visible how the community sticks together, even though people are still people. I realized the reason when I saw the poster in the hallway, because, haha:
Restaurant food is absolutely breathtaking here.I was invited to second best burger in my life (and best burger meat I will ever taste), and in muslim restaurant called Schwarma, no less. I can also very much recommend JB's Corner, which looks like another mall's restaurant, until you receive food on your table. Their salad blew socks off my feet. I can also very much recommend TheGrillhouse at Melrose Arch - their T-Bone steak is just impossible.
If you want to travel the city, don't get into these vans. I had a short talk with my friend about them:
"I heard the people in those "taxis" are armed. You get in and you get out without your pants, right?"
"No. You will get in and you will never get out (laugh)."
All and all, I didn't came here to enjoy the country though, I came to see my friend, his people (many of which I only knew virtually so far) and to train hard. And hard training was what I received. I love it. I will express this for all of "us" - Idan is Mother Teresa of self defense industry. He preaches change, based on his ultimate experience on battlefield.
He thinks critically about what he's doing, he tests it, he challenges the ideas and he spreads the word. Without him, we would all be in a very sad position, relying on bullshit like Krav Maga, or constructing our own systems. I think we will never be able to repay that debt, but we can appreciate his work by listening attentively, contributing smartly and giving our 100% effort.
I've learned (or let's say tasted, because the learning is for life) much here - Urban Warfare, Bush Warfare, Car work, Combat shooting with gun and rifle, SWAT, arresting, weapon defense, VIP protection and more. I'm grateful for all the pain and for having opportunity to work side by side with Herman, that lightning fast devil. For videos, don't hesitate to check Kalah CZ Facebook or Idan's profile.
I'm not saying goodbye, because I'm a "Machine" and I will definitely be back ;)
